Auto-Budget Checking
(ABC) offers the most convenient way for the customer to classify expenditures by category. When writing the check at the point of sale the customer simply puts a mark on the ABC classification grid in the lower left corner of the check. With optical character recognition or check imaging, the bank automatically totals each category to produce a monthly expenditure report. In addition, the customer may access ABC data daily, weekly, monthly or annually via hard copy, phone, or PC. With ABC, the individual or small business can compare actual spending with their budget. The ABC customer does not need to use software or hardware. Through the customer's simple use of the ABC grid, the bank can now offer a value-added service.
